Chimney Rebuild in Newbury

R W Roofing Services Ltd completed this chimney rebuild in Newbury after the existing chimney had suffered significant long-term deterioration.

The original chimney was over 200 years old and had become affected by damp penetration, severely perished brickwork, and general age-related wear. Our team carefully dismantled the unstable chimney and rebuilt it using new bricks and mortar, while matching the existing structure where appropriate.

Why the Customer Contacted
R W Roofing Services

The customer contacted R W Roofing Services Ltd because the existing chimney had reached the point where repair alone was no longer the right solution.

Due to its age and condition, the chimney had suffered from damp penetration and badly perished brickwork. This left the structure vulnerable to further weather damage and potential safety issues if not properly addressed.

What We Found

On inspection, the chimney showed signs of long-term deterioration. The brickwork had become severely weathered, and the structure required careful dismantling before it could be rebuilt correctly.

Older chimneys are particularly exposed to wind, rain, frost, and temperature changes. Over time, mortar joints can fail, bricks can perish, and water can start to penetrate the structure. In this case, a full rebuild was the most suitable way to restore the chimney safely.

The Work We Carried Out

Our team carefully dismantled the existing chimney due to its deteriorated condition. Once the chimney had been taken down safely, we rebuilt it using new bricks and mortar, matching the existing structure where appropriate.

As part of the rebuild, we installed a new lead tray and new lead flashing to provide long-term weather protection around the chimney area.

We also fitted four new chimney pots with suitable cowl caps for the active chimney flues, helping to protect the flues while keeping them functional.

The Finished Result

The completed chimney rebuild restored the structure to a safe and sound condition while improving its resistance to future weather damage.

By rebuilding the chimney properly and installing new leadwork, chimney pots, and cowl caps, the customer now has a more durable and weather-protected chimney that is better suited for long-term performance.
